We had a successful effort providing new shoes, clothes, and a toy/game for 136 children for Christmas 2023!
December 2023
We provided 50 bins of food staples for the families most in need that were designed to feed a four-person family for a week, held a used clothing drive for the adults, provided the food for the community Christmas party, and put together 150 "treat bags" with an apple, grapes, stickers and a candy.
This was an effort started by our friend, Claudia Langguth who sadly passed away on October 4, 2023. She built up this giving program with our Boruca neighbors over 22 years. We are honored to be able to continue her good works.
January 2024: We were asked if we could also help with basic school supplies. In Costa Rica, the school year begins in February. Primary education is free and small schools are located in every village; however, each child needs to bring their own materials to school in order to attend. If they can't afford or don't have access them (many live on remote subsistence farms), they can't go to school. We did a second fund drive to buy Backpacks, Pencils, Crayons, Erasers, Rulers, and Notebooks among other items. Because of our efforts, 259 children received the materials they needed to succeed in school!
October 2024: With the benefit of more time, we are planning a much bigger effort this year aiming for 597 of the Annual Gift (details listed below) along with 75 food packages, the used clothing drive, the Christmas party and the treat bags. To accomplish this, we need a lot of help!
